Petroleum pricing for the layman

Petroleum pricing for the layman

Malaysiakini letter byHalibullah Abdul Majid | Jun 13, 08

Petroleum pricing is about the most talked about issue amongst consumers today, not only in Malaysia but all over the world. The issues surrounding pricing of petroleum products are relevant to just about any other commodity but since most of these are not ‘bread and butter’ or shall I say ‘rice and curry’ issues to the lay consumer, they are not as emotive and explosive as the case with petroleum.

Consumers thus have a right to accurate information on this subject and not get used as pawns in the quest for votes by political parties. To understand petroleum pricing, we need to firstly consider the players in this industry. There are four parties viz.

Rumors of New Catastrophe Sweep Rangoon

Monday,June 16,2008

Now all hope of humanitarian intervention in Burma’s cyclone-devastated regions has vanished, rumors of another imminent natural catastrophe are sweeping Rangoon.

In the weeks following the cyclone, as US, British and French ships loaded with aid stood ready in international waters off Burma, many were certain that the three Western powers would decide to launch unilateral relief operations. Rumors spread widely that help was on its way. Continue reading

– – – – -Far more frightening, for some, are rumblings within the junta. The referendum is not popular with all sections of the rulers, to go by some inside accounts.

Junta-watchers do not rule out sections loyal to SPDC Vice-Chairman General Maung Aye staging a revolt, at an opportune time ahead, against Chairman Than Shwe, the 75-year-old senior General known to be suffering from acute diabetes and breathing problems. —-

Encounters with the Media(BEYOND 1988 — REFLECTIONS)

Saturday, May 3, 2008<!– , –>

Camp Thay Baw Boe, March 1989—January 1990: A shout echoed through the jungle’s morning stillness and woke me up, as if from a dream. I looked around, dazed and trying to fathom out what it was. I felt a surge of anxiety that perhaps the tree trunks buried in earth and being burnt for charcoal had turned to ashes.

If that was the case, all the hard work we had put in the day before, and my all-night vigil over the control-fire would been rendered useless, and I would be blamed for not doing my job properly.

To my relief, I saw that the charcoal fire was still burning slowly. I heard another shout; someone was calling my name. I shouted back grumpily, acknowledging the caller. Then I heard someone stepping over dry twigs and leaves on the forest floor. I turned and saw Myo Nyunt from our house. Continue reading

US City Declares August 8 ‘Burma Day’

Thursday,June 12,2008

Expressing solidarity with the people of Burma and their relentless struggle to fight for democratic rights, a university city in California has decided to observe August 8 as “Burma Day.”

Although Berkeley—located in northern California to the east of the San Francisco Bay—does not have much of a Burmese population, the city council at its meeting on Tuesday, June 10, unanimously passed a series of resolutions expressing strong solidarity with the people of Burma.

In the US Congress, the city is represented by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, a well-known advocate of the restoration of democracy in Burma at Capitol Hill. Continue reading

No rebate for PR is ‘discriminatory’

No rebate for PR is ‘discriminatory’

StarOnline Malaysia

Read my comments please:

Both of you are beating around the bush ( I don’t wish to use the word barking the wrong tree because it is rude and can cause misunderstanding esp. if you are over sensitive),

This Fuel rebate is for citizens only, present government is ‘correct.’ I am also a PR with five cars. I am in Malaysia for a quarter of a century. The real issue for you and me is to ask this xenophobic government why we are not given citizenship after all these years.

As we should not involve in politics of the host country esp opposing the ruling party is dangerous. We should all just pray for DSAI to take over the government. (But he need to control PAS DAP extremists and xenophobic politicians who just want to earn popularity by using racism. See this issue. They no longer dare to insult the other races from their citizens this is the time to HIT the foreigners. PR are also foreigners and safe soft spots to hit.
