It’s the economy, stupid

It’s the economy, stupid

From Wikipedia

It’s the economy, stupid” was a phrase in American politics widely used during Bill Clinton‘s successful 1992 presidential campaign against George H.W. Bush. For a time, Bush was considered unbeatable because of foreign policy developments such as the end of the Cold War and the Persian Gulf War. The phrase, coined by Clinton campaign strategist James Carville, refers to the notion that Clinton was a better choice because Bush had not adequately addressed the economy, which had recently undergone a recession.

In order to keep the campaign on message, Carville hung a sign in Bill Clinton’s Little Rockcampaign headquarters that said:

  1. Change vs. more of the same
  2. The economy, stupid
  3. Don’t forget health care.[1]

Although the attention of the world has turned to the financial crisis in the United States, interest in Malaysia has never been higher. The world is watching. Malaysia can redeem itself in the eyes of the world – or it can become an international pariah – all within the space of the next few weeks.

WASHINGTON, Sept 21 – Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks – many calling them “lazy,” “violent” or responsible for their own troubles.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 – about 2.5 percentage points.

GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE MASTER OF CIVIL SERVANTS

…..”As a government radio station, it should not be misused by anyone, including in disseminating matters negative to society and giving wrong views on government policies,” he told reporters after presenting Hari Raya Aidilfitri goodies to 25 poor, aged and handicapped people at the community hall of Taman Wan Adnan, here.

“If you do not agree with government policies, don’t be a government employee. Resign,” he said.

COMMENT: Actually BBC is free to go against the British government. Nothing wrong SIR, MINISTER! You need to learn some basic facts about democracy and good governance. IF you debate these with DSAI you would be beaten severely by DSAI. May be you may even want to do harakiri because of shame. (But I never see a minister taking responsibility and resign like in Japan. YB Zaid Ibrahim is the exception.

ROME, Sept 20 — Hundreds of African immigrants took their anger over the alleged mafia killing of six Africans to the streets yesterday, hurling rocks and smashing windows in a town north of Naples.

Several hundred people participated in the demonstration, which continued into the evening, police said.

Television footage broadcast on Italian SkyTV24 showed protesters marching in the rain and blocking traffic. They taunted police who were deployed in vans and riot gear to control them as they marched more than six miles along a state highway.

One protester threw himself in front of a car before being pulled away by a police officer.

The ANSA news agency reported that some people in the crowd were armed with broken bottles and shouted insults about Italians.
