Kuala Lumpur, November 10- Former de facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim today criticized the harsh measures taken by the police last night in cracking down on the Bersih rally in Petaling Jaya.

“A public gathering for the people to show their emotions and desires is one of the natural aspects in a democracy,” he added.

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim believes that the police must realize that the public have a right to express their opinions and peaceful assemblies must be tolerated like in any other democracies.

Myanmar removes rig from disputed waters: Bangladesh

DHAKA (AFP) — Myanmar removed a rig from a gas-rich stretch of the Bay of Bengal on Sunday after Bangladesh sent warships to protest against exploration in the disputed waters, Dhaka’s foreign minister said.

Bangladesh deployed four ships and put its navy and armed forces on high alert after a South Korean company escorted by Myanmar ships began work in the area.

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury told reporters that Myanmar was removing the exploration equipment.

CPO: Dispersal not during national anthem

Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar has denied that the police moved in on participants at a candle-light vigil last night while they were singing the national anthem. 

“That is what they (participants) are claiming,” Khalid told reporters at the Petaling Jaya police district headquarters about midnight.

When told that there was a video recording of the police action, Khalid replied: “I am denying it.”

So if people could prove with the video that law enforcement officers are bluffing, PM must take a stern and explanatory action on that kind of persons as this may cause the lost of trust even on government.

If not no one will ever believe them.
