Myanmar activist gets 104 years jail

YANGON, Jan 14 — Military-ruled Myanmar has freed six people who recently called for the release of detained democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, but sentenced another activist to 104 years in prison, relatives and an activist group said today.

Six members of Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party who marched for her release on Dec 30 in the country’s biggest city, Yangon, were freed without charge today, said the detainees’ relatives. They spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of harassment by the authorities.

Three others activists remained in detention, according to the relatives.

Nobel peace laureate Suu Kyi, the face of Myanmar’s beleaguered opposition, has been detained without trial for about 13 of the past 19 years, despite a worldwide campaign calling on the country’s military rulers to release her.

Meanwhile, a member of a student protest group who was arrested last September was sentenced on Jan 3 to 104 years in jail on a variety of charges, including six violations of immigration law, said the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, a Thailand-based group of Myanmar activists.

It said Bo Min Yu Ko of the All Burma Federation of Students Unions was not allowed a defence lawyer at his trial. It did not give details of his offences.

“The courts are not independent and simply follow orders from the regime,” said the group’s statement. “Criminals sentenced on drug charges are often given relatively light sentences, but political activists are given very long terms of imprisonment.”

It said that at least 280 political activists have been sentenced in a flurry of hurried and often closed court cases since October last year.

Myanmar has been under military rule since 1962. The current junta came to power in 1988 after crushing a nationwide pro-democracy uprising.

It held elections in 1990 but refused to honour the results after Suu Kyi’s party won a landslide victory. — AP

Empty rhetoric of Muslim leaders
All the so-called Muslim leaders around the world used to condemn ISRAEL, USA, support Palestinians, Iraq. However, forgot or ignored the plights of downtrodden Muslim minorities’ sufferings under Myanmar SPDC, Chinese Muslims, Russian and Indian (Kashmir) Muslims.
It didn’t even dare condemn the Burmese military thugs who rule Burma, whose justice is meted out in the Stalinist/Maoist standard of the end of gun’s barrel.
Just look at how much braver Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Philippines are when comparing to M’sia at UNGA voting on 24-12-2008.

US supporting of War Criminal Zionist Jew leaders is the same as Muslim countries supporting and protection Burma at UN

What a spectacle calling for an emergency special session of the UN General Assembly to resolve the Israel/Palestine situation when this same nation has friendly and co-operative relations and protecting at UNSC to those regimes as criminal and murderous as those of Burma, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

What a great if grim joke it is to have Muslim leaders declaring that the United Nations has a “moral duty” to end the violence in Gaza, when they have so ingloriously failed in their moral duty to support Burmese Muslims, Rohingyas and the downtrodden Muslim minorities around the world.

General Assembly, GA/10804, ANNEX VII
Vote on Human Rights Situation on Myanmar
The draft resolution on the human rights situation in Myanmar (document A/63/430/Add.3) was adopted by a recorded vote of 80 in favour to 25 against, with 45 abstentions, as follows:

Against: Malaysia, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brunei Darussalam, China, Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Egypt, India, Iran, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Libya, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Oman, Russian Federation, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Viet Nam, Zimbabwe.

Malaysia has berated United Nations member countries, which have stood silent over the Israeli assault on Gaza.
“How could any other states condone this action?” Malaysia’s permanent representative to the UN Datuk Hamidon Ali said at Wednesday’s Security Council open debate on the Middle East situation.

“How many more deaths, casualties and destruction would it take before the Security Council would be resuscitated from its paralysis in dealing with the Palestine issue?” he asked.

Malaysia’s permanent representative to the UN, Hypocrite (Encik) Hamidon Ali
supported Myanmar SPDC on 24.12.2008. He is not a better person than USA representative for us.
How many more Burmese citizens must be tortured, killed or jailed for many decades?
How many more Burmese Muslims need to die?
How many more Mosques must be destroyed again?
How many more Qurans need to be burnt again by SPDC?
If any BURMESE, MUSLIMS OR ROHINGYAS given asylum by Christian COUNTRIES throw shoes at him we should repeat as your FM had said, he DESERVE IT.

(Sorry to follow your FM, ex-culture minister, who taught us to call the Ambassador as Encik w/o using HE and who declare that President Bush deserve the shoe throwing.)
