Some Malaysians would remember  golfer Vijay Singh, who was denied PR here although he has Malaysian wife, Ardena Seth. Vijay Singh (Fijian Hindustani, born 22 February 1963), nicknamed “The Big Fijian”, is a Fijian professional golfer who was number one in the Official World Golf Rankings for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005. He has won three major championships (The Masters in 2000 and the PGA Championship in 1998 and 2004) and was the leading PGA Tour money winner in 2003, 2004 and 2008. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006. He won the FedEx Cup in 2008.

Most of the Malaysian would not know Ohmar Han (Myanmar Chinese Muslim) whose both of the parents were working in UKM as specialists. Her sister attended university here and became a specialist. Her brother-in-law is a famous Cardiac Surgeon working in IJN. Ohmar Han won the Junior Golf Championship here. Although the whole family got PR, she tried but failed to get the Malaysian citizenship to be able to represent Malaysia in SEAP (ASEAN) games. She got a scholarship from USA and left Malaysia for good.

So I was threatened not to write letters again and told that Home Ministry (without the knowledge of the PM at that time) put my letters into my file, blacklisted me and would never give me the citizenship.

Malaysia needs to CHANGE its concept of giving PR and Citizenships. They need to tap the brain drain of other countries e.g. Myanmar.

Please read this very good posting by Tun Dr M, DOCTORS :

(No wonder he was and is a great politician of the time and very powerful but now only we know that he was “blackmailed by the extremists” or selfish people and organizations. Tun revealed about this “blackmailed by the extremists” in language issue. And his dream of building an eye hospital in Lankawi was blusted into pieces by some Malaysian doctors.)

8. But the association of doctors make matters worse by refusing entry to foreign doctors to practice. It wants to keep the opportunities for making money in this country to its members only. It does not mind Malaysian doctors going out but foreign doctors may not come in. Only if they work with the Government can they come in.

9. The flow is one-way. Our doctors can leave the country but foreign doctors cannot replace them. We are losing the brains that we develop without the foreign brain coming in.
