Chernobyl: World Still Feel Effects of History’s Worst Nuclear Accident

Nearly a quarter century ago, a reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine exploded, sending clouds of radioactive fallout over northern Europe and the western half of the former Soviet Union. Twenty-four years later, the shock waves of that explosion are still felt around the world.
