Struggle for the second Independence of Burma

Struggle for the second Independence of Burma

Lost of Independence for the people of Burma

Independence is the self-government of a nation, country, or state by its residents and population,  generally exercising sovereignty. So with that definition, Burmese people and our country, Burma/Myanmar is not free. We have lost our first  Independence to the looters, Myanmar military.

Myanmar embassies around the world stopped celebrating Independence day and Revolution day celebration  is replaced or renamed as the Tatmadaw (Royal Military) day. So they are officially or tactically acknowledging that we lost our Independence and they do not like our previous and coming revolution.

The term independence is used in contrast to subjugation, which refers to a region as a “territory” —subject to the political and military control of an external government. The word is sometimes used in a weaker sense to contrast with hegemony, the indirect control of one nation by another, more powerful nation.

But for Burmese, it may be easier if we were a colony of a foreign force . Then no other country like China, India or ASEAN countries could give political support legitimately  to the SPDC military Junta. And there may be more patriotism, will, reason and legitimacy for the people to revolt against them.

Independence is often an emancipation from some dominating power, in our case SPDC. We could struggle for the senerio of not being controlled by even our own military powers through coup. Independence may be obtained by decolonization, or by separation or dissolution of the SPDC Junta and its cohorts.

We may need to get our second Independence only with an armed revolution, which typically needs the violent overthrow of a ruling SPDC authority. We need to made sure that there is a proper democratization process because The Russian October Revolution, for example, was not intended to seek national independence; the United States Revolutionary War, however, was.

Autonomy for our Ethnic Minorities’ states should be a kind of independence which has been granted by an overseeing Federal State authority that itself still retains ultimate authority over that territory (see Devolution).

A protectorate refers to an autonomous region that depends upon a larger government for its protection as an autonomous region.

Burmese people’s wishing to achieve independence from a dominating power will some day need to issue a declaration of independence, the first example being Shanland’s Declaration of independence two years ago and the most recent example being Kosovo’s declaration of independence. Another example is the U.S. Declaration of Independence issued in 1776.

Causes for a country or province wishing to seek independence are many. Disillusionment rising from the establishment is a cause widely used in separatist movements, but it is usually severe economic difficulties that trigger these groups into action. The means can extend from peaceful demonstrations, like in the case of the saffron monks’ revolution movement but we may need to be cautious to avoid a violent civil war.
