Renaissance of the Aung San’s speeches

 We decided to reprint our beloved Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s father, General Aung San’s speeches because even the sight in written words or the voice of uttering his name “Aung San” bring back the tender memories in most of our Burmese hearts and minds and could remind us his farsighted, wise politically correct ideas and awakens the political consciousness. Although he died young; his thoughts, beliefs and advises were far advanced and even better than most of the Burmese leaders and Military Junta Generals.

People remember what he stood for: honesty and hard work, unity and discipline, and such homely virtues they talk of these as the ‘Aung San way’, the way they must, or should try to follow.

U Nu and his AFPFL continue to use the Burmese people’s love of General Aung San by claiming their policies as the continuance of his beliefs and ideas. In 1958, the divided AFPFL’s two factions bickered over Aung San’s legacy. General Ne Win’s Caretaker government forbid use of Aung San’s portrait in political campaigns.

But after Ne Win put an end to anyone claiming Aung San’s legacy, he had shamelessly decided to claim Aung San for himself, his party, BSPP or Burmese Socialist Programme Party. He extensively used the photos, portraits speeches of Bogyoke Aung San as propaganda warfare to smoke shield and hook winked the support of the Burmese people.

His propaganda machine monopolizing the Aung San image broke down in 1988 as the real AUNG SAN in person, appear on the Burma’s political scene as Aung San Suu Kyi. As the own blood of the hero, she became the legitimate inheritance and was accepted by the whole population of Burma as the heritage of Aung San.

She looks like her father, talk and act like her father but she is on the other side of the political divide so the Burmese Military regarded her as their sworn enemy who stole the thunder and legitimacy from them.

Tuition teacher U Aung Pe was arrested on 14 February 2005 and sentenced to three years in prison by Twante Township court for saluting the portrait of Burma’s national hero and father of NLD leader Aung Suu Kyi, Gen Aung San, and singing a song honouring him, with his pupils.

The rest is the history. Aung San’s portraits were removed from all the government offices, banknotes etc. His speeches were silenced.

The sight and voice of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi reminds all of us about her father, our NATIONAL HERO.

And even General Aung San’s name reminded all of us about his daughter Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

So we hereby presented the series of, “The Renaissance of the Aung San’s speeches.”
